SharePoint on its own, and in combination with MOSS 2007 technologies offer businesses tremendous possibilities when considering new and replacement ways of managing documents and records.

Where an Organisation has perhaps over many years employed Lotus Domino and Notes, the concept of Workflow based document management systems is one which they are most likely to be familiar with, and the features and capabilities are ones they will look for when considering a replacement.

Features which are common place in Lotus Notes - Hide When's, Rich Text Fields, structured Workflow, 'Action' buttons, User and role-specific options etc are in the main capabilities which don't commonly exist in database systems, and if they are possible, have to be speciically programmed onto forms and are not available in an environment's generic toolset.

These features now exist in the generic toolset for SharePoint and MOSS 2007 technologies in combination, which means that a very credible solution can be built to match the functionality previously only offered within Lotus Domino. And the demanding end-user who wants to have the same level of capability as previously, can have presented to them systems which go a very long way to matching if not superseding those which Lotus Notes had to offer.

In addition, many Document Management and Workflow rules based line of business applications that were previously managed within Lotus Notes are ideal for migration across to the MS Sharepoint platform, eg Quality Management and Compliance databases.
